Description
Please note that we do not ship fish by mail. All fish must be picked up from us in Oberweningen. We will pack the fish professionally for you and ensure adequate oxygenation. This allows even longer transports to be handled without problems. We will also be happy to advise you regarding transportation and the correct introduction of the fish into your pond.
Product Description:
Minimum Keeping Conditions for Zander:
Adult size of fish: 50-80cm, sometimes larger
Minimum pond size*: 10,000 liters
Minimum pond size for adult fish: min. 50sqm per fish, as the fish form territories and become aggressive towards each other. Many more can be kept as juveniles.
Minimum pond depth for overwintering adult fish*: 1.80 m (large area, not just a small spot)
Optimal water temperature: 18-23 °C
Water temperature that can be tolerated for a period: 4-30 °C
Water values: pH 6-8, optimal around 7, plenty of oxygen, does not like temperature fluctuations
Food: live fish! also insects as juveniles. There are also indoor-bred zander that eat dry food. However, the food must move, which is difficult in a pond.
Original habitat: Europe in rivers, ponds and lakes
Special considerations for keeping: Predator. Cannot be kept with small fish. Zander are often used to keep fish populations small if undesirable fish species multiply too much. Older zander become aggressive towards each other. Sex differences visible from about 40cm. The fish spawn in nests and guard the eggs. Requires a fair amount of oxygen, sensitive during transport, which is why only a few fish can be packed in one bag. This makes the fish quite expensive.
