A drum filter is the professional choice among pond filters, automatically and reliably cleaning pond water. Inside the drum filter is a special drum made of stainless steel or plastic mesh, which acts as a sieve. The drum filter is suitable for high water circulation rates, thus achieving optimal water treatment results. The filter performance varies depending on the mesh size of the sieve. This allows particles as small as 60µm to be filtered from the water. When the sieve becomes heavily soiled, a flushing process is automatically triggered, which washes out the dirt particles and flushes them directly away through the drain. Filtered pond water is used for the flushing process, which is also discharged with the dirt particles. This pond water is not returned to the pond, so the pond must always maintain a constant water level. A drum filter provides purely mechanical filtration. Only dirt particles are filtered out of the water. However, for clean and healthy pond water, both mechanical and biological filtration are required. Biological filtration removes pollutants from the pond water, ensuring an optimal living environment for your koi and fish. Modular drum filters are now also available, equipped with a downstream bio-chamber, which simultaneously handle both mechanical and biological filtration. A combination of a drum filter with a bio-chamber and a UVC clarifier forms an effective filtration cycle and significantly simplifies your pond maintenance.
