Why test?
Nitrate is the end product of mineralization in ponds and, even in relatively high concentrations, is non-toxic to fish, but it negatively affects plant growth and the well-being of some fish species. Excessively high nitrate levels also promote undesirable algae growth if both nitrate and phosphate are present in the water.
