The golden orfe is an orange-colored, fast but shy fish species that can grow 25 to 50 cm long. The color can vary from deep orange to pale orange, often with dark spots. The size of the pond is crucial for how large the golden orfes ultimately grow. Two-year-old orfes are approximately 16 cm long, five-year-old orfes are 34 cm, and ten-year-old orfes can reach the 50 cm mark. The golden orfe is a strong fish that does not get sick easily. The golden orfe likes to eat all kinds of insects in and around the water. Mosquito larvae, mosquitoes, and worms are among their menu. They also like small fish and eggs. In addition to natural, living sources, golden orfes also eat pellet food. In summer, however, when there is enough natural food, golden orfes can do well without this extra food. They will then also leave any additional food offered.
