Please note that we do not ship fish by post. All fish must be picked up from us in Oberweningen. We will professionally pack the fish for you and ensure sufficient oxygenation. This allows even longer transports to be handled without problems. Our staff will also be happy to inform you about transport and the correct introduction of the fish into your pond.

The Fringebarbel sturgeon (Acipenser nudiventris), also known as the Shiip sturgeon or Spiny sturgeon, is a species of fish from the sturgeon family.

The coloration varies depending on the location. Usually, the back is ash-grey, reddish-brown to dark blue. The belly and the bony plates behind the eyes are dirty white. The number of dorsal scutes is 12 to 15, and the lateral scutes are 60 or more.

The head has a conical snout, and the lower lip is not split. The length of the relatively stout fish varies greatly. Rarely, some reach two meters in length. The Fringebarbel sturgeon can weigh up to 50, exceptionally up to 80 kilograms, but on average only 8 to 10 kilograms.

The Fringebarbel sturgeon was found in the southern part of the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea; in the latter, it is now extinct. The species has very rarely been recorded in the Danube, the Black Sea, and the Azov Sea.

Its diet consists of microorganisms and sinking food pellets.
