Usually, the back is ash-grey, reddish-brown to dark blue. The belly and the bony plates behind the eyes are dirty white. The number of dorsal scutes is 12 to 15, and the lateral scutes are 60 or more.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe head has a conical snout, and the lower lip is not split. The length of the relatively stout fish varies greatly. Rarely, some reach two meters in length. The Fringebarbel sturgeon can weigh up to 50, exceptionally up to 80 kilograms, but on average only 8 to 10 kilograms.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Fringebarbel sturgeon was found in the southern part of the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea; in the latter, it is now extinct.
